In Zapier Agents, you can ask your agent to call another agent. This action lets you break down complex tasks into smaller ones. Agents carry these tasks out independently, and the main agent organizes the results.
This product is in open beta. It’s available for use but still in active development and may change.
Add a Call an agent action
- From the Zapier Agents home, select your agent.
- Learn how to start a new agent.
- In the Instructions field, click Insert tools.
- Click + Add tool. A dialog box will open.
- Select Call an agent.
- From the list displayed, select the agent to be called.
- Enter any other actions or instructions your agent must do.
Once you insert a Call an agent action, it will appear as a text pill in the instructions field. To provide better context to the agent, move it to wherever you want that agent to be used.
Agents can be triggered both by their original trigger or by a Call an agent action. You do not need to change the trigger of an agent to use it with this action.
Best practices when calling agents
The main agent is the one that calls other agents and uses the results of their instructions. To ensure it completes the work successfully:
- The agent calls other agents in the order they appear. Write all instructions for the main agent in the order that they need to be completed.
- For better performance, limit agent calls to fewer than 5 per main agent.
- If another agent is performing a task, do not include it in the main agent's instructions.
Next steps
Once you build your main agent and connect it to others, add all agents to a pod to make it easier to manage your related agents.
