How to get started with Google Contacts on Zapier

Google Contacts and Zapier connect to automate contact management. You can trigger workflows when contacts are added or updated and create new contacts from forms.

Prerequisites

To use the Google Contacts app on Zapier, you must have:

• A Google account with access to Google Contacts (free Google account or any paid Google Workspace plan).

Connect Google Contacts to Zapier

To create an app connection to Google Contacts on Zapier:

• Go to the Apps page.
• Click + Add connection.
• A new dialog box will appear. Search for and select Google Contacts.
• Click Add connection.
• A new browser tab or window will open.
• Log into Google Contacts to authenticate.
• Grant Zapier permission to access your account if prompted to.

Your Google Contacts account is now successfully connected to Zapier.

Triggers

• New or Updated Contact - Triggers when a contact is created or updated. (Polling)
• New Contact - Triggers when a contact is created. (Polling)
• New Group - Triggers when a group is created. (Polling)

Searches

• Find Contact - Finds a contact by name, email, or phone number.
• Find or Create Contact - Finds or creates a contact.

Actions

• Create Contact - Creates a new contact.
• Create Group - Creates a new group.
• API Request (Beta) - This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.
• Add Contact to Groups - Adds an existing contact to a group(s).
• Update Contact - Updates an existing contact.
• Upload Contact Photo - Uploads a profile photo to an existing contact.

Limitations

• Google Contacts will only return 50 items to Zapier at a time, meaning if you add more than 50 new contacts between polls, your workflows will miss contacts. 
• Contact creation is limited by Google Apps Script quotas: 1,000 contacts per day for consumer accounts and 2,000 contacts per day for Google Workspace accounts.
• Group ownership restrictions can cause "Referenced group does not belong to the same user" errors when trying to manipulate contacts in groups you don't own.
