This guide will walk you through how to properly set up Proctorio on your Mac using Google Chrome.
For a smooth experience, it's important to follow each step carefully, from installing the correct browser and extension to enabling permissions and running the system diagnostic test.
Step 1: Download & Launch Google Chrome
Proctorio works the best with the Google Chrome browser. Please make sure you have Google Chrome installed on your device.
- Proctorio works best with Google Chrome and may not function properly in other browsers. Download Chrome here if it’s not already installed, then launch it to continue.
- Make sure you're using the latest version of Chrome before moving on
Step 2: Download & Install the Proctorio Extension

When prompted from your course quiz, click Add Extension to install Proctorio.
If you don't see the prompt, visit https://getproctorio.com to install the extension manually in Google Chrome.
Step 3: Click "Click here to install the Extension"

Once you land on the Proctorio setup page, click the “Click here to install the Extension” button when it appears.
This will redirect you to the Chrome Web Store to complete the installation.
Step 4: Add the Extension to Chrome
Click the “Add to Chrome” button on the Chrome Web Store page to begin installing the Secure Exam Proctor extension.
Step 5: Close Any Open Tabs

When prompted, click “Click here” to automatically close any extra tabs or windows before starting the diagnostic test.
This step is required before you can proceed with your exam.
If you do not see this option, please click Continue.
Step 6: Enable Screen Sharing Permissions

You’ll be prompted to allow screen sharing for Google Chrome to work with Proctorio.
Click “Open System Settings” when prompted, then follow the steps to allow permission.
Step 7: Allow Screen & System Audio Recording

In System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, make sure Google Chrome is enabled.
This allows Proctorio to securely share your screen during the exam.
Step 8: Quit and Reopen Google Chrome

After enabling permissions, you’ll be prompted to “Quit & Reopen” Chrome.
Click the button to fully restart the browser so your changes take effect before continuing to the diagnostic check.
Step 9: Run the System Diagnostic Test

Return to your exam and follow the prompts to run the diagnostic test.
When asked, allow access to your webcam, microphone, and choose “Entire Screen” for screen sharing.You’ll know everything is working correctly when all diagnostic checks appear in green.
